In a notification released by University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday, it is urged to all institutions and universities for taking the concerned steps for hiring professionals as “professors for practice.” A draft was released by the UGC is this matter in August approving the guidelines for engaging “professors of practice” in universities and higher education institutions.
As per the guidelines it was stated that the individuals who have done something exceptional and have a significant continuation in their profession and field of discipline such as engineering, technology, business, science & technology, fine arts, armed forces, media, literature, public administration, etc., are eligible to be employed as the “professors of practice.”
As per the notification, Guidelines to engage Professors of Practice in Universities and Colleges are sent to vice-chancellors of universities and principals of colleges. According to the guidelines, “professors of practice” can serve at an institution for a maximum of three years. In exceptional circumstances, they may serve an additional year. It is not permitted to serve more than four years in total.
