The ruling to allow foreign universities to put up campuses in India is all processed to start giving “final touches” This will be released before July 15, a top government official said. The draft rules which are being shaped by the University Grants Commission (UGC), are in the final stage of consultations with the various key ministries and government organizations including the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
The higher education controller released draft regulations in January 2023 to allow foreign universities to make the existence of campuses in India. The draft rules seek to transmit autonomy to these universities in making decisions about the admission process and tuition fees. Changes have been made to the outline regulation on the basis of the inputs get from stakeholders to make it more “fine-tuned”, the authority stated
At the present time, we are in the final stage of consultations within the government involving looking for clarification on the recommendation made and reviewing the rules before it finally becomes law. We are already done taking inputs from foreign embassies and universities,” UGC Chairman Prof Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, stated.
The rules were put out to seek people’s points of view and comments from stakeholders on 05 January 2023 the duration was extended twice to February 3 and later on to February 20.
