The University Grants Commission (UGC), in a public notice uploaded on 23rd June, has requested all HEIs to organize the activities to make success the “Drug Free India Pakhwada ” Campaign. The initiative has been taken to adopt “26th June as International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking,” as Proclaimed by the UN in a resolution. University Grants Commission (UGC) has informed that the United Nations General Assembly has passed a resolution proclaiming 26th June as International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking in the fight against Drugs. The Government of India is very concerned regarding the issue and wants a “DRug Free India”. Apart from the other various campaigns against the DRug Abuse & Illicit, the Government has launched a long term campaign – “Drug-Free India Pakhwada ” in order to create awareness among the public. The Pakhwada starts on 12th June to 26th 2023.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has proposed an e-pledge Certificate – “Say Yes to Life, Say No to Drug ” as well as a Campaign also. The citizens of India who take “e-pledge” will be awarded the certificate. The Public Notice signed by Sudeep Singh Jain also attached a separate page that shows the steps on how to download the certificate from the website – www.pledge.mygov.in/fightagainstdrugabuse.
Annexure also appeals to people to share the certificate on Mobile, email, Facebook and Twitter. UGC asked all Higher Educational Institutions Heads to organize various programs such as Rallies, Seminars, workshops, E-Pledging Campaigns, etc during the campaign – “Nasha Mukt Bharat Pakhwada”.
