On 8th June 2023, University Grant Commission (UGC) uploaded a public notice titled “Accreditation and Ranking System of the Country” at the official portal. UGC informs that there is a need to reform the present Ranking system as the issues are growing. The decision has been taken based on High-Level Committee recommendations, formed by Gov. of India.
Prof. Mnanish R Joshi, Secretary of the UGC unclosed a public notice on the official portal ugc.gov.in and inform that there were “growing concerns” to reform the norms of accreditation and ranking of HEIs of India. For this, the Ministry of Education, under the government of India, had formed a high-level committee. The Committee headed by Dr. K. Radhakrihnan includes the Chairp Board of Governors, IIT Kanpur & Chairperson, Standing Committee of IIT Council was constituted. The committee submitted its report as a draft entitled “Transformative Reforms for Strengthening Periodic Assessment and Accreditation of All Higher Educational Institutions of India” on 12th May 2023 as the date shows in the draft uploaded on www.education.gov.in.
Secretary, further writes in the notice that the proposed draft was submitted to the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. As per Ministery Direction UGC seeks feedback/suggestions from HEIs of India on the draft report via email till 23rd of June 2023. He also mentioned an email – daizysobti14@gmail.com.
The notice says that the recommendations of the committee have been considered as it suggests fundamental changes should be placed in tune with New Education Policy 2020. UGC is going to adopt a “simplified, Trust-based, objective, and rationalized system for approving, Accreditation, and ranking of HEIs”. It is capable to secure and verify the data through the modern technological system.
