Punjabi University delays admissions: As a result of the university missing its deadline to get approval from the Distance Education Bureau (DEB) of the UGC, admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Department of Open and Distance Learning at Punjabi University have been postponed for the academic year 2023-2024. This delay affects both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Due to the fact that the admissions process at other universities has already started, the delay may result in a lower number of student applications for this year.
The university will normally begin the admissions process for students interested in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) courses for the next academic year well in advance of the month of July. Prior to this, it had been granted permission to offer a range of classes beginning with the academic year 2018-19 and continuing until the academic year 2022-23.
The University Grants Commission demanded that the university turn in its application for approval by the 31st of March. According to many reports, the financial institution was unable to successfully process online transactions, which resulted in a delay and ultimately led to the closure of the website. They said that the delay was caused by the university’s failure to gain fast authorization from the DEB, which may result in a fall in the number of students enrolled if the approvals were provided. They claimed that this may have caused the delay.
According to Professor Harvinder Kaur, who is serving as the head of the Department of Open and Distance Learning, the university ran into a technical issue when it was trying to get the DEB to approve the rates it was charging. “The operation had successfully been completed; but, due to a number of unexpected technological complications, the fees could not be paid. She said, “The Vice-Chancellor has discussed the matter with the UGC in order to obtain clearance.”
According to the University Grants Commission (UGC), out of the five universities (public and private) that provide UGC-recognized courses via their respective departments of distance education, Punjabi University offers the most undergraduate (17) and postgraduate (17) programs.
