The chairman of UGC Jagadesh Kumar said students opting for four-year undergraduate courses are required basic understanding of the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, interdisciplinary studies, and vocational education,
105 Universities across the country are about to release the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) including 19 central universities. This will start from the next academic session, as University Grants Commission (UGC) stated.
Central universities selected for the four-year UG courses include Delhi University, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Aligarh Muslim University, Central University of Jammu, Viswa Bharti University, Assam University, Tezpur University, and Sikkim University, and National Sanskrit University. The other universities approx 40 deemed-to-be universities, 22 state universities and 18 state private Universities and 22 state universities
FYUGP aims to impart students with capacities in various fields such as arts, languages, social sciences; ethics of social engagement, and natural sciences soft skills such as complex problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills, along with many specializations in any pursued disciplinary or interdisciplinary.
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has suggested that the undergraduate degree be of either three- or four-year duration, with multiple exit options within this period, with adequate certifications. Student can get their UG certificate after completing one year in any discipline or field including vocational and professional areas, or a UG diploma after two years of study, or a Bachelor’s degree after a three-year programme.
As per the NEP 2020, the UGC had constructed a new student-centric “Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP)” incorporating an easy Choice-based Credit System (CBCS), and multiple entry and exit options which won’t be a concern anymore.
