Now Degrees with the Course’s Core name: UGC, University Grant Commission (UGC ) announces changes in the Degrees format on Friday at its official portal. Currently, the structure of degrees shows Courses Disciplines, names, duration of the Course, and year of the passing, along with a division of what students have earned. A new proposal has been drafted at the International standardization level nomenclature.
In the new draft nomenclature, A student’s degree may be scribed as “ Bachelor of Arts in the specialization.” For understanding, If a student belongs to a Music subject, The degree may be written as “Bachelor of Arts in Music… (Core name of music, e.g., Tableau, Singing, Dance, etc.) along with B.A. (Music)”.
However, the existing naming frame may continue for Post Graduate degrees (One or Two Year Programs). But the proposal appeals to add at least a course abbreviation at the P.G. level. For Example, Master of Science may be printed as “M.S. in newly introduced naming norms.”
All the frameworks are structured by the National Credit Framework (NCrF) and the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP). New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 describes both departments while it was prepared. These changes will also be recognized at U.G. Certificate, U.G. Diploma, and P.G. Diploma levels.
UGC informs that the changes in present nomenclature and specifying the degree according to the international level are a recommendation by Expert Committee. The recommendation would be enacted after feedback/suggestions from HEIs, students, and others. The proposed new nomenclature will be considered for all disciplines – Arts, Engineering and Technology, Management, Commerce, etc.
