The University Grants Commission (UGC) amended the requirements for providing National Fellowships for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC). In November of 2021, SC students will be eligible to apply for fellowships for higher study under the updated standards.
MPhil, PhD Students, UGC Revises NFSC Fellowship Guidelines : This scheme was established in 2005-06 and provides financial assistance to SC students pursuing M.Phil/Ph.D in Science, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Indian Universities/Institutions/Colleges recognized by the UGC.

In this program, 2000 junior research fellowships are awarded each year (1500 for classes in Humanities/Social Sciences and 500 for classes in Science) to eligible Scheduled Caste students who pass the Joint UGC-CSIR NET-JRF test and the National Eligibility Test-Junior Research Fellowship.

Students pursuing a full-time M.Phil. will be eligible for fellowships. Ph.D. research programs at UCC-accredited institutions.
The NET exam will give preference to candidates from Scheduled Castes. After receiving the grant letter, candidates have three months to complete their fellowship.
For M.Phil. and Ph.D., the fellowship normally lasts two years. During the first two years of a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Rs 31,000 is credited to the student’s account and Rs 35,000 for three additional years (the Senior Research Fellowship).
