Shillong: Over 100 Meghalayan students studying in Manipur were evacuated by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s state government.
Saturday’s Chief Minister Review focused on Manipur student rescue. He ordered officials to arrange flights to send students home and ensure their safety. Meghalaya is arranging special aircraft from Imphal to Shillong to return students quickly.
A senior state Home Department officer reported airlifting 83 Meghalaya students from Manipur.
Sangma learned that Alliance Air flew 66 students to Guwahati on Friday at the review meeting. Officials said they were fed and bused back to Meghalaya.
They said 17 students were rescued and taken to Guwahati on Saturday.
They said 50 kids will arrive in Guwahati on Sunday, 70 on Monday, and 30 on Tuesday.
Officials will help 15 students travel on Wednesday.
They claimed two state officers would monitor the Manipur evacuation.
Unfortunate Manipur violence. Two castes are fighting. Talking to them. The state administration removed the curfew for three hours today; the situation is under control, and we hope calm returns. Amit Shah is monitoring the situation. Violence achieves nothing. Come forward and calmly resolve conflicts.
