COVID guidelines will be followed in reopening schools on January 24, Ms Gaikwad told ANI.
Rajesh Tope, the state’s health minister, called for schools to reopen on Monday.
“Some people want to reopen schools so that children can get an education,” he said.
An increase in Coronavirus cases had caused the Maharashtra government to close schools earlier this month.
There has been an increase in COVID cases, so (offline) school sessions have been discontinued. The session will begin with low case numbers after consulting specialists, Ms Gaikwad said.
Including 214 Omicron infections, Maharashtra saw 43,697 coronavirus infections on Wednesday, 10% higher than the day before.
