France and India reached an accord during Narendra Modi’s visit. Mumbai and Kolkata would build submarines and surface combatants for export under the MoU. This partnership will enhance PM Modi’s “Make in India” campaign. Mazagon Dockyards and the French Naval Group will develop and build Scorpene-class submarines for a third country.
Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) and Naval Group France, a major European naval defence company, inked another MoU. This pact promotes surface ship coordination for India and international naval forces.
India and France would also collaborate on advanced aeronautical defence technology. They will collaborate on a combat aircraft engine. By year’s end, Safran and the DRDO will create a project roadmap. They will also work with Safran Helicopter Engine to motorize heavy-lift helicopters under the Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH) programme.
Mazagon Dockyard and Naval Group have agreed to build three submarines. The first Scorpene submarine construction programme (P75 – Kalvari) was successful.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron signed the “Horizon 2047: 25th Anniversary of the India-France Strategic Partnership, Towards A Century of India-France Relations” document. Both leaders praised naval enterprises from both countries for sharing expertise.
The Mazagon Dockyard-Naval Group MoU to build three further submarines for the P75 programme also pleased them.
Scorpene Submarines are powerful stealth vehicles. These submarines have advanced Sonar, sensor, and long-range guided torpedoes and anti-ship missiles.
